Earlier today it was announced that the Greensboro Gargoyles signed forward C.J. Walker to an ECHL deal for the upcoming season.
C.J. Walker is a 26-year-old forward with one season of ECHL experience under his belt. Before making his professional debut, Walker played NCAA hockey for the University of Wisconsin–Superior. In his best collegiate season, he recorded three goals and 14 assists for 17 points in 27 games. After his time in college, Walker moved to the SPHL and joined the Birmingham Bulls. While with the Bulls, he posted four goals and six assists for 10 points in only 13 games. That production earned him his first opportunity in the ECHL with the Idaho Steelheads last season.
During his time in Idaho, Walker scored eight goals and added five assists for 13 points in 42 games. By signing Walker, the Gargoyles aim to add depth and bring in a forward with meaningful professional experience. Walker will likely see significant opportunities to carve out a role in Greensboro, especially with the team currently down a forward until captain Logan Nelson returns. If Walker becomes a reliable option for Burt, he could also earn power-play time, as Greensboro continues working to establish consistency in that area.
The Gargoyles will be back in action on Thursday as they take on Tahoe and look to secure their elusive first home victory as a franchise. Walker’s arrival may give them the extra support they need as they navigate a short-handed stretch and try to generate more offense throughout the lineup.
