Yesterday, the Greensboro Gargoyles announced the signing of Shane Ott for the upcoming season. Ott was one of the players the Gargoyles acquired in one of the many future consideration trades Greensboro made at the trade deadline last season.

Background

Last season, Ott was with the Bloomington Bison, where he played in his first full professional season. In 69 games, Ott scored 13 goals and added 33 assists for a total of 46 points. In the playoffs, Ott showed his goal-scoring ability, scoring three goals and adding an assist in his six playoff games. The season prior, Ott made his pro debut with Bloomington and averaged nearly a point per game, with 12 assists in 14 games. Before turning pro, Ott attended Niagara University, where he spent four seasons. While at Niagara, he never went below half a point per game. The young forward’s best season was his final year in college, where he put up nine goals and 25 assists for 34 points in 35 games.

Outlook

Shane Ott is a huge addition for the Gargoyles. He has incredible vision and a knack for finding his teammates. Not only can he dish the puck, but he can also finish if left without that option. The best comparison for Gargoyles fans from last season would be Tyler Weiss. A forward who can distribute the puck and would be an incredible pair with a pure scorer. If the Gargoyles can add a sniper to the roster, they will be in great shape on the top line.

Shane Ott’s greatest strength is his vision. His numbers speak for themselves, showcasing his ability as a natural playmaker. Entering his second pro season, Shane has the skill and hockey sense to create offense, and our fans will be excited every time the puck is on his stick in the offensive zone.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to play in Greensboro. I’ve heard many great things about the community and support for the organization. I’ve had experience playing for a newer franchise [in Bloomington] and hope I can bring that energy and knowledge to Greensboro. My fiancé and I are looking forward to living in the southeast for the first time, and I am excited to play for Coach Giguere and my new teammates to pursue a championship.
