Kennedy received a game misconduct for aggressor at 13:12 of the second period, leading to a review under Rule #28 – Supplementary Discipline. The league determined additional action was warranted, resulting in Kennedy missing Kalamazoo’s first three regular-season games — October 18 vs. Fort Wayne and October 24–25 vs. Iowa.
Before the incident, Kennedy made an early impact in Kalamazoo’s 5–3 preseason win, scoring the opening goal at the 7:37 mark of the first period. His tally, assisted by Ryan Helliwell and Evan Dougherty, set the tone for a high-energy performance at Wings Event Center.
After Toledo briefly grabbed a 2–1 lead in the second period, Nolan Walker tied it up before intermission. The third period belonged to Kalamazoo, as Jack Jaunich buried a power-play goal to reclaim the lead before Blake Christensen added the eventual game-winner just over three minutes later. Collin Saccoman sealed the deal with a blue-line blast, assisted by Jaunich and Cam Knuble, capping off a dominant final frame.
Goaltender Jonathan Lemieux made 24 saves on 27 shots, while Kalamazoo’s power play clicked at 1-for-3. The victory offered fans a first look at the team’s balanced offense and physical edge, both of which could carry over into the regular season.
Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the ECHL and Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA), all fines collected are donated to the ECHL Player’s Hardship Fund.
