ECHL: Tulsa Oilers Bring Back Austin Albrecht

The Tulsa Oilers have announced that they have re-signed 6’0″ forward Austin Albrecht for the 2025-26 season.

Junior and Collegiate Career

Austin Albrecht started his junior career playing with the Wichita Falls Wildcats in the NAHL, where he spent three seasons. In 110 games, Albrecht had 35 goals and 48 assists for 83 points with 155 penalty minutes and a +41. Albrecht was named to the NAHL South All-Star Team and the NAHL Robertson Cup All-Tournament Team in the 2015-16 season. In 15 playoff games, he had eight goals and eight assists for 16 points with ten penalty minutes and a +7.

Albrecht then spent a season playing in the USHL, splitting his time between the Sioux Falls Stampede and Muskegon Lumberjacks. Between the two teams, Albrecht played in 57 games, where he had ten goals and 35 assists for 45 points with 78 penalty minutes.

After his junior season, Albrecht started his collegiate career playing Division I hockey at UMass. In 26 games with the Minutemen, Albrecht registered six goals and five assists for 11 points with 14 penalty minutes and a -2. After just one season at UMass, Albrecht entered the transfer portal and ended up at American International College (AIC). In 33 games at AIC, he had five goals and ten assists for 15 points with ten penalty minutes.

After just two collegiate seasons, Albrecht started his professional career in the ECHL, signing with the Wichita Thunder, but he only played in one game. He then signed overseas for the 2021-22 season, playing in the EIHL with the Manchester Storm and Höchstadt Alligators in Germany3. In 28 games with the Storm, Albrecht had three goals and 11 assists with 14 penalty minutes and a -6. He had three goals and six assists with ten penalty minutes in eight games with the Alligators.

Albrecht then came back to the US in the 2022-23 season, playing in the SPHL with the Fayetteville Marksmen and Vermilion County Bobcats. In 31 games, he had six goals and 20 assists with 18 penalty minutes and a -7. Albrecht received callups to the ECHL to the Indy Fuel and Maine Mariners, ultimately finding a spot with the Mariners, with whom he signed in the 2023-24 season.

While Albrecht spent most of the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons in North America, he also spent some of the season in Australia playing in the AIHL. He played in 40 games between CBR Brave and Melbourne Ice, where he registered 65 goals and 79 assists for 144 points with 34 penalty minutes.

Albrecht spent part of his 2023-24 season as an alternate captain with the Maine Mariners before he joined the Tulsa Oilers, opting to re-sign with them in the 2024-25 season. He served as an alternate captain of the Oilers in the 2024-25 season. Through his ECHL career thus far, Albrecht has played in 119 games, where he has 28 goals and 36 assists for 64 points with 128 penalty minutes and a +3. In the 2024-25 season with the Oilers, Albrecht played in 38 games, where he had 14 goals and 12 assists for 26 points with 29 penalty minutes and a +6.

Albrecht has a huge net front presence, allowing him to pick up quite a few goals from rebounds and deflections. He also has quite a bit of speed, which allows him to create breakaways or odd-man rushes for his team. While he does not drop the gloves often, Albrecht does have a physical side to his game and will drop the gloves when his team needs him to. On top of offense and physicality, Albrecht brings a lot of leadership to the team, allowing for the younger players to have somebody to look up to on the team.
