The Ohio State Buckeyes have missed on several key recruits recently but still hold a top-10 class. According to 247Sports, Ohio State ranks No. 9 nationally despite missing out on five-star safety Bralan Womack.

The 2026 class has brought its share of ups and downs, and with only a few spots left, most of the heavy lifting is already complete. That allows the Buckeyes to shift their focus toward the current junior class.

So far in 2027, Ohio State has two commitments, led by five-star wide receiver Jamier Brown. Now, the Buckeyes appear to be in strong position for another major addition on defense.

Ohio State leads for four-star CB Danny Lang

According to Buckeye Huddle’s Marc Givler, four-star cornerback Danny Lang says Ohio State is the current leader in his recruitment. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound defensive back plays at Mater Dei (CA), where he is teammates with Buckeye commits Chris Henry Jr. and Kayden Dixon-Wyatt.

“Lang is a hybrid safety/corner who shows the ability to play anywhere in the secondary. He’s listed at 6-foot-1 and 165 pounds and looks pretty close to it with plenty of length and room to add good weight to his frame. He’s a reactionary athlete who flies to the football and plays a physical game. He’s a well-rounded defensive back who can run, cover, play the football, and shows solid football instincts. He’s a high-effort player and his motor is always going. He has a nice edge to his game and plays with a mean streak. Safety is where he plays now and could be his best long-term position, but he has the frame and athleticism to play corner as well, and that could ultimately be his meal ticket at the next level.” — Greg Biggins, 247Sports

Lang is ranked the No. 134 overall player and No. 16 cornerback nationally, per 247Sports. Ohio State does not yet have a defensive player committed in the 2027 class and currently has just one cornerback pledged: four-star Jordan Thomas. That said, the Buckeyes have recruited the position well in recent cycles, adding standouts like Devin Sanchez, Bryce West, and Aaron Scott.

Expect Ohio State to take multiple cornerbacks in the 2027 class, with Lang a prime candidate to join. Other major programs — including Alabama, Notre Dame, Florida, Michigan, and Penn State — have also offered. But for now, Ohio State holding the lead is a strong sign.
