The Kentucky Volleyball team is celebrating the outstanding performances of two of its players, Emma Grome and Reagan Rutherford, who have been honored by the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association (AVCA) with All-America recognition for the 2023 season. Grome has been named to the second team, while Rutherford has earned a spot on the third team.
This is not the first time Grome and Rutherford have received this prestigious accolade – they were also recognized as AVCA All-Americans last season. In addition, freshman outside hitter Brooklyn DeLeye has been honored with an AVCA All-American Honorable Mention.
Grome, who led the NCAA with an average of 12.10 assists per set, played a crucial role in driving the Kentucky offense to an outstanding .285 hitting percentage for the season. She helped her team become the only one in the SEC with six different players averaging over two kills per set. Grome also displayed strong defensive skills, contributing 1.75 digs per set and a career-best 43 blocks throughout the season. Her exceptional performance has earned her a spot on the All-SEC team for the third consecutive year, as well as an AVCA All-Region membership. Grome has been a consistent presence on the AVCA Second Team All-American list throughout her three seasons with the Kentucky Volleyball team.
Rutherford, on the other hand, showcased her prowess as a hitter by averaging 3.47 kills per set with an impressive .315 hitting percentage. She also contributed to the team’s defense with 1.53 digs per set. Rutherford’s outstanding performance has earned her a place on the AVCA All-Region team and a spot on the All-SEC team.
With these latest honors, the Kentucky Volleyball program has now amassed a total of 55 All-America recognitions in its history. This also marks the 16th time that the Wildcats have placed multiple players on the AVCA All-America teams and the 13th consecutive year for this achievement.
