Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra believes Nikola Jovic’s stint with Serbia will be the making of him.
The Miami Heat are focused on developing their crop of young talent heading into the 2025-26 NBA season. With no outright superstar on their roster, the Heat have no choice but to look to their future.
While young stars like Kel’el Ware showed signs of struggle in the Summer League, there are other stars who are shining quite well.
One of them is Serbian star Nikola Jovic. In his most recent outing with Serbia, Jovic outshone NBA superstar Nikola Jokic with his performance.
Well, Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra thinks a continued run with Serbia will help the Miami Heat receive a finished product in Jovic.
Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra spoke to Kosarkaski savez Serbia while attending a EuroBasket warm-up game recently.
When talking about Heat star Nikola Jovic, Spoelstra admitted that he loves seeing him with the team because he returns to the Miami Heat more mature and ready to win.
“I love when he spends time with the national team. Every time he comes back to us, he comes back more mature.
“I think being surrounded by a group that knows how to win and cares about winning, a team that is well-connected, makes a big impression on him.
“I’m looking forward to the great things he’s going to do with us.”
Jovic comprises a group of players on the Heat that could become future superstars. He is on a short list with stars like Kel’el Ware, Davion Mitchell, and new arrival Kasparas Jakucionis, who could be the future of the team.
The Heat are in a strange position. For the first time in almost two decades, the Heat are without a standout superstar or prospect on their side.
But the Miami Heat should see this as an opportunity rather than a challenge, as developing these players could allow them to have a crop of multiple future superstars.
On top of that, they could also build a core of star players that they can use to advertise to and attract superstars to the team in the future.
This should be a transformative season for the Miami Heat, as they look to re-establish their identity and place as one of the most revered teams in the NBA.
