ESPN Analysts Predict Suns Will 'Take a Tumble' This Season After Offseason Changes

After missing the playoffs last season while their star trio struggled, the Phoenix Suns entered the offseason expected to make major changes to their roster.

That is exactly what they did as they began the summer by trading future Hall of Fame forward Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets.

They also bought out Bradley Beal’s contract, allowing him to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers in free agency and officially leaving Devin Booker as the only part of their big three remaining.

Booker is set to be the focal point of the Suns’ rebuild after they signed him to a massive contract extension this offseason and they also added some key players around him via trades and the 2025 draft.

Phoenix acquired Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and the pick used to select Khaman Maluach from the Rockets in the Durant trade and they also landed Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets.

During the 2025 draft, the Suns selected Maluach 10th overall and both Rasheer Fleming and Koby Brea in the second round.

Suns predicted to be worse than last season by ESPN analysts

While the Suns have been busy rebuilding their roster this offseason after breaking up their star trio, they are still expected to take a major step back next season and that was recently shown by a poll by ESPN.

ESPN recently released a poll of their analysts that saw the Suns gain the third-most votes as a team that will “take a tumble” this season.

Phoenix received 28 votes which was tied with the Boston Celtics for the third most behind the Milwaukee Bucks (41) and Los Angeles Lakers (32).

Of course, the Suns finished 11th in the Western Conference standings last season and with multiple teams in the West upgrading their roster this summer, Phoenix may find themselves even farther down the standings this season.

While that may be the case, the Suns have built a solid core of Booker, Green, Williams, Maluach, Brooks, Royce O’Neale, Grayson Allen, Fleming, Ryan Dunn and Nick Richards.

With how the Suns are built currently, they are set to have some struggles over the next handful of seasons, especially the upcoming one, but they have been able to surround Booker with a solid core that may surprise some people this season.
