Longtime ESPN anchor Jay Harris has revealed that he was recently diagnosed with cancer.
Harris made an appearance on “Good Morning America” on Thursday and shared that he has prostate cancer. He also wrote a column for ESPN and said he is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday.
Harris said he received some good news when scans showed that the cancer has not spread beyond his prostate.
“While that was quite the relief, I know that’s not the final word, and they’ll find out more when they go inside,” Harris wrote. “My hope is that they won’t find anything extra so that I can return to work in a month or so, 100 percent healthy.”
Harris added that his hope in sharing the personal news is to “normalize this conversation and hopefully provide a bit of guidance and preparation, just as it has been offered to me.”
Harris has been with ESPN since 2003. He has appeared on several different shows but is best known for hosting the late-night editions of “SportsCenter.”
