ESPN predicts where the Tennessee Vols will land in the College Football Playoff rankings after loss to Georgia

The Tennessee Vols' College Football Playoff hopes took a big hit on Saturday night thanks to a 31-17 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs.

Tennessee played well in the first half, but they couldn't get off the field on defense in the second half. The Vols couldn't get anything going offensively in the second half, either.

Georgia and Tennessee are both 8-2 with two games left in the regular season.

After falling out of the top 12 of the playoff rankings last week, ESPN thinks the Bulldogs will land at No. 10 when the new rankings are released on Tuesday night.

They have Tennessee falling from No. 7 to No. 11.

The Vols would not be included in the 12-team playoff in this scenario because of Boise State.

From ESPN: If this projection is right and the playoff were today, Tennessee would be excluded from the bracket to make room for Boise State, the committee's fifth-highest-ranked conference champion. Because the five highest-ranked conference champions are guaranteed spots in the field, if the fifth champion is outside of the committee's top 12 on Selection Day, they have to get in at the expense of somebody. Last week, it was Georgia. Now, it's Tennessee.

Tennessee can still get in the playoff (and there's still a decent chance they do), but the Vols no longer control their own destiny. They'll need some help over the final two weeks of the regular season.
