ESPN Taking Heat For College Football Playoff Broadcasting Decision

ESPN's broadcast crew for this Tuesday night's College Football Playoff game between Penn State and Boise State has been sharp, but we can't say the same for the picture quality.

For some unexplainable reason, ESPN doesn't have 4K streaming available for the Fiesta Bowl. To make matters worse, none of the three CFP games scheduled for New Year's Day will be available in 4K. College football fans will ultimately have to settle for watching the games in HD quality. Sure, HD isn't the worst format in the world, but it's not nearly as sharp as 4K.

Over the past few hours, a plethora of angry sports fans have criticized ESPN for refusing to embrace 4K like FOX Sports has.

"I cannot understand how ESPN has 4K capability and refuses to broadcast these playoffs game in higher quality," a fan said.

"No 4K game AT ALL across every single @CFBPlayoff quarterfinal game. Today. Or tomorrow," another person wrote on X. "Yet @YouTubeTV keeps raising prices. And I don’t even have to mention @espn - they’re so pathetic they couldn’t hit water if they fell out of a boat."

"Can someone investigate why ESPN paid all this money for CFB playoffs but wont give us it in 4K," a third fan said.

"ESPN is destroying college football," a fourth fan declared. "They have too much money and power to manipulate opinion. They are biased . We also have to watch most games in primitive 720p in the era of 4k."

Maybe, just maybe, ESPN will change its ways for the 2025 college football season.

Wednesday's schedule for the CFP will kick off at 1 p.m. ET with the Peach Bowl between Texas and Arizona State. A few hours later, Ohio State and Oregon will square off in the Rose Bowl.

The CFP quarterfinals will conclude with Notre Dame and Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. That game will kick off at 8:45 p.m. ET.
