ESPN's Matt Miller Facing Criminal Charge For Nearly-Fatal Accident

Things have gone from tragic to terrible for ESPN's Matt Miller as he is now facing criminal charges in relation to the car accident that nearly killed him and caused him to lose an arm.

According to TMZ, Miller has been charged with a misdemeanor count for failing to drive on the right half of the roadway in Jasper County, Missouri. If convicted he faces up to a year in jail and a fine. He is due in court on September 21.

The crash occurred on June 17 when Miller's vehicle veered across the center line and smashed an ongoing semi-truck. Video of the crash showed Miller being violently ejected from his SUV after colliding with the truck.

The other driver was uninjured, but Miller needed to undergo life-saving surgery. He survived, but his left arm could not be saved.

Miller's Future

Miller announced in July that the surgery to remove his arm was successful and he hopes to get a prosthetic soon. He said that he would be stepping away from ESPN indefinitely and asked for thoughts and prayers in the meantime.

“A quick update: The surgery to remove my left arm was successful with hopes of an eventual prosthetic replacement,” Miller said. “Similarly, the femur and patella surgeries were also successful and the fantastic surgery team was able to save my left leg. To best focus on my healing and recovery, I’m stepping away indefinitely and will be placed on leave from ESPN. Thank you to all for the prayers and thoughts; please keep them coming.”

But in the aftermath of the accident, Miller also became the subject of a series of social media complaints about fraud involving fantasy football leagues.

The Missouri Attorney General’s Office opened an investigation into the matter, but that is still ongoing and is not related to his current charges.
