Former Ohio State quarterback turned college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit was officially put in a unique situation recently.
Kirk’s son, Chase, committed to Michigan recently. With Kirk having played at Ohio State, no one really saw this coming. It doesn’t happen all that often that a former player’s child ends up with the rival.
At the end of the day, it is a great opportunity for Chase and that is all it should be seen as.
“What an opportunity for him,” Kirk Herbstreit said recently on Pardon My Take. “You know that this is a kid that grew up a lifelong Ohio State fan, of all my kids. Like, he’s the guy that cried when they lose games like he’s the Ohio State junkie. Ohio State did not really pursue him to the point of offering him a scholarship."
However, it was what Kirk admitted that stood out to Buckeye fans. Many fans took to social media to share that it felt like a sense of entitlement in a way from Kirk, who expected Ohio State coaches to recognize his son committing to Michigan. Kirk recently went to a senior dinner for his son, Zak, who is a part of the program in Columbus.
“I went in there really nervous to wonder how the Ohio State coaches, because none of them texted me, 'Hey, congratulations on Chase,'" Herbstreit stated.
Kirk Herbstreit says no Ohio State coaches texted him to congratulate his son Chase on committing to Michigan.

Seems reasonable that the Ohio State coaches wouldn’t text Kirk about his son committing to Michigan. pic.twitter.com/SHh40WPccS
It is an interesting look by Herbstreit to expect coaches from Columbus to congratulate him on his son committing to Michigan. Ohio State never recruited Chase in a serious fashion and that’s kind of where it should have ended.
Herbstreit played in 38 games over four seasons at Ohio State and completed 57 percent of 317 passing attempts. Herbstreit left Columbus with 2,263 passing yards, five touchdowns, and 11 interceptions thrown.
