ESPN's Paul Finebaum Calls College Football World Outrage 'Fake' After Florida State Snub
USA TODAY Sports

A little over a week has passed after the college football world was taken by surprise when the College Football Playoff Committee put Alabama and Texas in the playoffs in front of Florida State. The Crimson Tide and the Longhorns are both 12-1 while the Seminoles ran the table 13-0 while winning the ACC Championship.

ESPN's Paul Finebaum was quick to justify putting in a one-loss SEC team over an undefeated ACC Champion and says that the backlash has made it hard to concentrate.

"It's been kind of hard to concentrate on that because everywhere I go, I run into people who are screaming at me about Florida State," Finebaum said on McElroy and Cubic in the Morning.

Finebaum went on to say that fan outrage has been unprecedented which seems just given that the playoff committee has never left out an undefeated ACC Champion since its beginning in 2014.

"Really unprecedented, Greg," Finebaum said. "I understand the frustration. But the complete and total reinterpretation of what college football, and the College Football Playoff, is about, to me, has been truly astonishing."

Fans are passionate, some a little more than others, but Finebaum would later state that the outrage was 'unadulterated' and 'fake' even from people within the football industry.

"I never get too upset, or maybe upset at all, about what I read on Twitter because I realize those are just people who can't get into your show or any other show and are expressing themselves. But more from just people in the industry—people who do understand how the CFP is developed and designed—to me, it's just complete and unadulterated fake outrage."

He would later talk about his views on society in general and tried to relate that viewpoint to the situation.

"It's part of where we are in society where people without any facts, without any information, just gravitate to an issue who just embrace it and squeeze it and just regurgitate whatever the talking points are."

The facts are out there and have been well-documented, drawing the attention of state senators, attorney generals, and politicians to investigate the issue.

The Seminoles are slated to face Georgia in the 2023 Orange Bowl on December 30 at 4:00 p.m. and look to finish the season 14-0.
