Louisville Women’s Basketball Set to Welcome DePaul to the KFC Yum! Center

After a dominating 77-59 victory over Cincinnati in their season opener, the No. 17/15 University of Louisville women’s basketball team is ready to take on DePaul in their home opener. The Cardinals will be playing their first home game since February 26 and it will be the KFC Yum! Center debut for several new additions to their roster.

The Cardinals have a remarkable track record at the KFC Yum! Center, boasting a 192-31 record over the past 13 seasons. They have won at least 11 home games in each season and have lost only one home game or less in six of those seasons. In the last six seasons alone, Louisville has an impressive 87-7 record at home.

Under head coach Jeff Walz, the Cardinals have also been successful in their home openers at the Yum! Center. They are currently 14-2 in home openers under Walz and have won each of their last seven home openers.

In their season opener against Cincinnati, all eleven players on the Cardinals’ roster saw playing time, with ten different players scoring. Graduate transfer Sydney Taylor led the team with 16 points, eight of which came in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. Kiki Jefferson made a significant impact across multiple categories, contributing nine points, five rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block. Jayda Curry also scored in double figures with 13 points.

The returning players also had strong performances in the opener. Olivia Cochran led the team with 10 rebounds and three assists, while Merissah Russell tallied seven points and two assists. Alexia Mobley set career highs with six rebounds and four points.

On Sunday, November 12, the Cardinals will face DePaul at the KFC Yum! Center at 4 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on the ACC Network and broadcasted on 93.9-FM The Ville. Louisville holds a tied 17-17 series record against DePaul, with an 8-4 advantage since Walz became head coach. The Cardinals have won their last four meetings with the Blue Demons.

DePaul enters the matchup with a 2-0 record this season, with wins over Western Michigan and Stonehill. They went 16-17 last season and return just two starters from that team. Graduate student Anaya Peoples, who previously played at Notre Dame, is the most experienced player for the Blue Demons and has faced Louisville five times in her career.

The last meeting between the Cardinals and the Blue Demons took place on December 21, 2022, with Louisville securing an 81-67 win. Chrislyn Carr led the Cardinals with 21 points and 17 rebounds, recording her first career double-double.
