Max Verstappen has emerged as one of the greatest drivers in Formula of the recent generation. Verstappen has kept up with performances despite racing in a highly inferior chassis. The Dutchman is giving it his all at Milton Keynes regardless of the disappointing pace of the car. As such, ex-F1 driver Anthony Davidson sends a warning to the 27-year-old’s teammates at Red Bull.

Red Bull’s second driver problem has continued despite swapping Liam Lawson with Yuki Tsunoda after finishing just two races in the 2025 season. Max Verstappen remains the major point scorer at Milton Keynes since the beginning of the year. Notably, Verstappen has achieved 187 points out of 194 total for the Austrian constructor in the standings.

It is no surprise that no other driver is able to live up to the standards that Max Verstappen has set at Red Bull. As such, Anthony Davidson did not mince his words while talking lowly of the drivers who would pair up with Verstappen at Milton Keynes. Davidson recalled Liam Lawson’s failed stint and how his career would’ve been over if it weren’t for Racing Bulls taking him in.

Anthony Davidson insisted that it was brave of any driver in F1 to go to a team where no one else dared to go, that is, the ill-fated second seat at Red Bull. Davidson metaphorically pointed out that a driver is first devoured and then spat out by Max Verstappen, such is his dominance against his teammates. The Briton reckoned that Verstappen could end anyone’s career by just showcasing his performance on track.

That second seat there has cost many drivers their head, Liam included. It is brave to go there where actually no other driver dares to go. Because you’re first devoured and then spat out by Max Verstappen. That happens to everyone, Max can end your career.

Anthony Davidson claims Max Verstappen can ‘work around problems’

Max Verstappen has remained vocal about the issues he has been facing with Red Bull and the RB21 challenger this year. The Dutchman had already asserted that the team expected much more performance out of the car than they are currently seeing this year. Hence, even after bringing in updates with no fixes to the problems, Anthony Davidson declared that Verstappen could perform well and work around the problems.

Anthony Davidson raised a concern about the fact that Max Verstappen’s Red Bull chassis was extremely difficult to drive. Still, Verstappen kept up with the results and worked around the problems. However, Davidson reckoned that the Dutchman couldn’t work around all the problems of the car. Still, the reigning world champion extracted performance from the car that no other driver on the grid could.

It is clear that Red Bull’s car is very difficult to drive. Max can work around problems, that’s true. Not all problems, but most. He extracts performances from the car that others cannot.

Anthony Davidson noted

The 2025 season has been difficult for Max Verstappen, and he seems to be far off the driver’s title lead. There are still ten races left this year, as anything can happen in the final stages. The Dutchman will keep his head in the game and care only about on-track performances for now. Time will tell if he’s able to improve his position in the pecking order or not.
