The final preseason game is upon us. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will take on the Buffalo Bills in a regular season preview. Unfortunately this game won’t feature any regular season type players, so it won’t be quite as exciting.
For some, that is a good thing. There are a few players that are still battling to prove that they belong on this roster. This game will be their final chance to prove that before the regular season.
Here are my five Buccaneers with the most to prove in the preseason finale vs the Bills.
Josh Hayes is very much on the borderline of making this team. The Bucs invested a lot into the cornerback position this offseason with the intention of not having to keep a guy like Hayes who disappointed when on the field last season. However, injuries to the safety position might allow him to sneak his way onto the roster.
Christian Izien is currently injured, so the team doesn’t really have a solidified third string nickel. Hayes can play that role. He’s also an excellent special teams player.
It makes sense for the Bucs to keep a guy like this for now. But the more Hayes can do in the chances he gets the more likely he is to make the team.
John Bullock has played well enough this preseason. As an undrafted free agent, not much was expected from him. Now he is pushing to make the final cut.
The Bucs are looking for a young depth linebacker to develop. Weather a guy like Bullock makes the team or not depends on how well he plays. A good game against the Buffalo Bills could make all the difference in the world for him
Nick Jackson is very much in the same boat as Bullock. The undrafted linebacker has made some big splash plays this preseason. Perhaps no one of the roster has flashed more than he has.
The old saying tells us that once is an accident and twice is a coincidence. If Jackson continues to splash in this third game then that will be a trend. Such a trend is worthy of a roster spot.
I believe that it is a long shot for Trey Palmer to make this Bucs team. However, his kind of speed doesn’t grow on trees. There will be teams out there that are interested in him.
The more good tape he can put out there the better. Even if it’s not in Tampa, Palmer can stick on an NFL roster. There more he can show teams that the better at this point.
No one has disappointed me more than Devin Culp this preseason. I felt like with his excellent athletic profile, he would be a natural fit in this new offense. However, he has done very very little to be noticed at all.
I still believe Culp makes the final roster, but his job is in no way safe. He has the tools to turn into a legitimate NFL player, but he has to develop his game. So far, we haven’t seen enough of that.
