Florida Gators in danger of losing rising commit to national champions after official visit

The Florida Gators currently sit at 13 commitments for the 2026 class and are in danger of losing another commitment.

Both Gators Online's Blake Alderman and Keith Niebuhr have logged expert predictions for three-star defensive tackle Jamir Perez to flip to Ohio State.

The Gators have been working hard on beefing up the defensive line in recruiting. Four-star JaReylan McCoy is their lone defensive line commit outside of Perez, but they are trending high for multiple others.

Losing Perez, who committed on May 18th, would be a substantial loss for the Gators. At 6'4 and 330 lbs, Perez has a lot of size and is an ascending player that could very easily become a four-star throughout the rest of his recruitment, especially after reading his scouting report.

Square-built nose that can choke off the A-gap. Measured just over 6-foot-4, 325 pounds spring before senior year and carries the mass well with his thick ankles and thick wrists. Tends to play with a higher pad level, but natural knock-back power frequently gives him an advantage in the middle. Defeates double-teams with a wider base and can steer obstacles towards ball carriers when he clamps down. Lacks the desired range at this stage and isn’t the type of interior force that’s tracking to offer a ton of value as a pass rusher, but a few developmental semesters in the weight room could unlock more first-step and lateral quickness. Should be viewed as a potential anchor at the Power Four level that could fit into both an odd and even front. Might not ever fill the stat sheet, but has a chance to eventually provide valuable minutes on the interior with further physical and technical development.

The writing was on the wall for Perez to potentially flip, as he still took a visit to Ohio State. It was a bigger danger than it otherwise would be, as Perez is from Cleveland, Ohio.

There is still hope that the Gators can keep Perez's commitment, but it's going to be tough considering that the recruiting dead period is upon us.
