Not to network shame, but … Florida State vs Clemson is on the ACC Network.
It wasn’t all that long ago when this showdown was a key part of the national title chase, and now it’s just an interesting battle on a Saturday night.
For both beleaguered programs, this is still a big deal, though.
For Clemson, the team that was supposed to be deep in the ACC title mix at this point is desperate to find something positive. Everyone’s grouchy, and frustrated, and …
Beat Florida State, beat Furman, take down South Carolina in the rivalry game, and all will be right with the world - for now. The Tigers need to win three of the last four - a date at Louisville is in there - to go bowling.
The Seminoles need to win two of their last four to get into a bowl. It gets Virginia Tech, NC State, and Florida after this.

When Clemson’s defense is just ordinary, Clemson loses.
It’s hardly a bad defense - quite the contrary. It’s great against the run, the pass rush is solid, and it’s among the best in the ACC at getting off the field. But with the offense struggling, the Tigers are 0-5 when allowing over 350 yards of total offense.
The Clemson attack has zero ability to push through when it’s time to close. In how many games has Florida State’s offense produced more than 350 yards?
All of them.
Again, Clemson isn’t bad.
No, this isn’t a national title-level team put together by Dabo, but that’s fine. It’s better than the record, and it’s still doing a whole lot of things right. But last week the pop was back.
It was the defense that was a problem against Duke, but again, the run defense is fine. This bunch should be able to contain the Florida State backfield and keep Tommy Castellanos from doing big things on the move.
It’s like there’s so much pressure on this bunch that it can’t just take a deep breath and … play. Fortunately …
Florida State has played two road games this season, and neither one went well.
One was the puzzling whiff against Stanford, and the other the double-overtime, ACC-defining loss to Virginia.
They’re both extremely strange. There’s no excuse for either one to be this mediocre, but neither one can seem to put it all together.
In a Someone Has To Win sort of way. Clemson is just a bit better, and it’ll show it at home with a much better day coming up with the big offensive moments.
