Cade Fennegan had a sudden change of heart. The former BYU quarterback, who previously announced his retirement from football before the 2024 season, has entered the transfer portal, per a report by On3's Pete Nakos.

Fennegan will look for a new opportunity as a graduate transfer. The one-time Boise State transfer was on BYU's roster for three years from 2021-23 with a total of four career games. He dropped off the Cougars roster and moved into a graduate assistant role.

What makes this move intriguing is Fennegan looking for a new start at the age of 25. He's older than one-third of last year's starting QBs in the NFL. Trevor Lawrence (24), Brock Purdy (24), Bo Nix (24), Bryce Young (23), Jayden Daniels (23), C.J. Stroud (22), Caleb Williams (22), Anthony Richardson (22), and Drake Maye (22) are all younger.

After three high school seasons at Woodrow Wilson High in Dallas, Fennegan accounted for 112 total touchdowns and more than 6,454 passing yards as the winningest quarterback in school history. He earned District 12-5A MVP honors as a junior and senior. His father, Garth, played defensive back at BYU from 1990-93, according to his BYU bio.
