From the SIAC to center stage on a global tour, Randy McClure is redefining what it means to be an HBCU legend.
When Randy McClure laced up for Albany State, he dreamed of making a name in basketball. Today, that dream isn’t just alive, it’s soaring. Known to fans as “Crash,” the former Golden Ram is dazzling audiences around the world as one of the rising stars of the Harlem Globetrotters.
McClure left an indelible mark on Albany State University, scoring over 1,000 career points from 2016 to 2020. Named a D2 All-American and two-time SIAC All-Conference player, he was twice selected to the elite NBPA HBCU Top 50. Known as one of the highest honors for athletes from historically Black colleges and universities.
After graduation, McClure took his talents overseas. In the Moldova Superleague, he didn’t just play, he dominated. He earned League MVP and led his team to a championship title, proving his game translated globally.
But his biggest leap came in 2021, when he joined the Harlem Globetrotters, an iconic basketball institution known for blending athleticism with entertainment.
“When an opportunity to play with the world’s most historic team comes, you don’t turn it down,” McClure said.
Now in his third year, McClure has broken through once more. In 2024, he was elevated to a third-quarter showman role, a high-profile position typically reserved for seasoned veterans.
“No way at all would I have pictured myself in this position my first weeks as a Globetrotter,” McClure posted. “But in my third year, I’ve learned a thing or two from the best.”
He credits mentors like Globetrotters veterans Saul White Jr. and Chandler Mack for showing him the ropes, and he’s not alone in carrying the HBCU banner. McClure shares the spotlight with fellow HBCU alumni like Carl Garcia (Miles College), Prince Moss (Grambling), Asanti Price (Benedict College), and Angelo Sharpless (Elizabeth City State).
Their collective presence is turning heads and shining a long-overdue spotlight on HBCU excellence.
