Seattle Storm guard Nika Muhl fell short of winning a national title in the women's NCAA Tournament during her time with the University of Connecticut.
In her senior year in 2024, she helped the Huskies reach the Final Four. They, however, lost to the Caitlin Clark-led Iowa, putting a bitter end to Muhl's prolific college career.
On Sunday, the second-seeded UConn took care of Muhl's unfinished business in convincing fashion. It walloped top-seeded South Carolina, 82-59, at Amalie Arena to win its 12th national championship and end a nine-year drought.
Geno Auriemma, 71, also became the oldest coach to win a Division I basketball crown.
Of course, the 23-year-old Muhl was all for it. She posted a series of Instagram stories to celebrate the victory of her beloved alma mater.
"Sobbing, happiness, tears," wrote Muhl.
The Storm guard flexed UConn star Azzi Fudd, who was named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. She scored 24 points against the Gamecocks.
Muhl also lauded Auriemma and longtime assistant coach Chris Dailey, who are both responsible for all of the Huskies' national titles.
"Think about this," wrote Muhl.
The two-time Big East Defensive Player of the Year was also hyped for the Pixar-inspired UConn championship graphic made by ESPN.
"Oh, it's up," said Muhl.
Aside from Fudd, the Huskies got huge contributions from first-year sensation Sarah Strong and outgoing guard Paige Bueckers, who tallied 24 and 17 points, respectively.
"It's been a story of resilience, of gratitude, of overcoming adversity and just responding to life's challenges," said Bueckers in a report from ESPN's Michael Voepel.
The 23-year-old playmaker, Muhl's former backcourt mate, is projected to be the first overall pick in the upcoming WNBA draft.
