Arizona State Baseball has made its first major splash of the offseason, landing a commitment from Austen Roellig, a standout third baseman from Utah, via the NCAA transfer portal.
Roellig, a redshirt freshman this past season, brings both offensive firepower and infield versatility to a Sun Devils program looking to reassert itself atop the Big 12 in 2026.

Initially signed by LSU, Roellig transferred to Utah ahead of the 2025 season and immediately became one of the Utes’ most consistent performers. The 6’1”, 195-pound infielder hit .341 with a .391 OBP, adding six home runs, 35 RBI, and 16 doubles over the year. His glove work at third base also drew praise, as he logged a .970 fielding percentage and showcased a strong, accurate arm.
ASU’s transition into the Big 12 brought immediate recruiting implications, and Roellig’s commitment is a sign the Sun Devils are leveraging that momentum. Roellig is expected to compete for the starting hot corner role immediately, especially with ASU graduating key infield contributors from the 2025 campaign.
Arizona State wrapped up its inaugural Big 12 season with a competitive showing, and the addition of Roellig positions them to push higher in 2026. His bat gives the lineup middle-order depth, while his stops at LSU and Utah adds an edge in high-pressure situations.
For a league that already boasts elite infielders from TCU, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech, Roellig’s move to ASU gives the Sun Devils a legitimate answer at third base, and a potential All-Big 12 breakout candidate.
ASU has quietly built a reputation as a portal-savvy destination in both baseball and football. With Roellig on board, expect more additions to follow as the Sun Devils fine-tune their 2026 roster.
