The Ohio State Buckeyes are close to wrapping up the 2024 recruiting cycle with one of the top classes in the country.

But they are also already hard at work on the 2025 class as well, having already landed some of the top players in the cycle.

That continued on Wednesday afternoon, with four-star Imhotep Institute (Philadelphia, PA) edge rusher Zahir Mathis committing to the program.

Mathis picked the Buckeyes over Texas, Penn State, Tennessee, Florida State and South Carolina, becoming the sixth member of the 2025 class to commit to Ohio State.

“The relationship I have with Coach J, Coach Al, Coach Murp, and Coach Day,” Mathis told On3 of what separated the Buckeyes. “The love from Ohio’s coaching staff is respectable and by me being welcomed to the family is amazing.”

Mathis now joins a class that is already ranked No. 2 in the nation and No. 1 in the Big Ten, joining five-star corner Devin Sanchez, four-star corner Blake Woody, four-star receiver Jayvan Boggs, four-star QB Tavien St. Clair, and three-star linebacker Eli Lee.

Mathis currently ranks as the No. 1 player in Pennsylvania, No. 55 player nationally, and the No. 7 edge rusher per the On3 Industry Ranking. He also ranks as the No. 2 edge per Rivals.com and No. 9 edge per 247Sports.
