FOX to Reportedly Broadcast Weekly Friday Night College Football Game in 2024
Aaron E. Martinez/American-Statesman / USA TODAY NETWORK

On Thursday, Andrew Marchand of The Athletic reported FOX will broadcast a college football game in each week of the upcoming college football season. They'll be broadcasting the games during the primetime slot to maximize viewership ahead of a Saturday slate of games.

The leagues that will receive the primetime Friday night games are the Big Ten, Big 12, and Mountain West. The networks will build the 2024 college football schedule in May, meaning there are many possibilities as to what programs or matchups fall on a Friday night game.

Shortly after Marchand reported the news, FOX then announced the new weekly matchup.

“FOX is football, and our new Friday night package will make FOX the leader in America’s game throughout the weekend,” Fox president of insight and analytics Michael Mulvihill said in a release. “We’ve built our collegiate business by seizing opportunities in previously underutilized timeslots, first with BIG NOON SATURDAY and now on Friday nights. Our goal this fall is to have the No. 1 college football game on both Fridays and Saturdays and the top NFL game on Sundays.”

The new Friday night broadcast won't intrude on the "Big Noon Kickoff" or the Big Noon Saturday" game that shortly follows the show to setup the storylines of a Saturday full of college football games.

Of course, big-time matchups will remain during their respective Saturday slots -- such as Ohio State vs. Michigan, one of the most nationally respected and known matchups -- meaning smaller matchups will get the Friday night slot, adding a fun wrinkle to the new season.

For coaches, though, a Friday night matchup could interfere with recruiting schedules, as they won't be able to visit a high school football game that night.
