Frank Warren has changed his stance on Dana White vs. Eddie Hearn, now saying he would consider promoting the fight after previously expressing no interest.
Speaking to Bloody Elbow earlier this month, the Queensberry Promotions boss didn’t mince words about his indifference to the boxing match. The bout, which would feature 56-year-old White taking on 46-year-old Hearn, initially didn’t capture his attention.
But Warren’s opinion appears to have shifted in recent days. He told IFL TV that he’d be open to the idea of putting on the fight, especially since both promoters would likely be too busy training to handle promotional duties themselves. However, Misfits Boxing chief Kalle Sauerland has also shown interest and is reportedly willing to put up significant money for the event.
Frank Warren is set for a busy weekend in Manchester, where Moses Itauma and Jermaine Franklin headline the card. Before the event, he sat down with IFL TV to discuss several topics, including the potential grudge match between Eddie Hearn and Dana White.
The conversation turned to pay-per-view numbers, with Hearn predicting at least one million buys. Warren didn’t hesitate: “I’ll put that on for them.”
“I’m an independent, let’s do it, let’s do the fight if they want to do it. I’m in, I’ll be the neutral in the middle.” Joe Pugh of IFL mentioned Misfits Boxing’s Kalle Sauerland had offered £5 million each to stage it under his platform known for spectacle fights.
Warren responded by saying “What’s this, a Misfits fight?” before adding with a smile that he might be better suited for it. He finished by saying “I’ll up that money”.
Warren’s comments come as a contrast to what he said just a couple of weeks ago, when he told Bloody Elbow in Dublin that he wasn’t interested in the kind of talk surrounding Hearn and White. He’s had his differences with both men, though it’s worth noting that his longstanding issues with Hearn have cooled off in recent years.
“Who cares?” was his response when asked about the potential matchup between the two. “I’m in the business of selling tickets for fights that people want to see, sellout shows. People might want to see that, I don’t know.
“Good luck to them if they want to go and do that, we’ll keep doing what we’re doing and building careers of guys who actually are young enough to fight and are professional athletes and professional boxers.”
