Tottenham fans’ patience has been tested to the limits in the summer as the Lilywhites have managed to endure a disappointing transfer window. The North London club have looked nowhere near competing with other clubs in the summer, and that has certainly not gone down well at N17. After the Europa League success in May, many fans were hoping that Daniel Levy would bring in quality players for this season.
However, Spurs have faced a public embarrassment more often than not in the transfer market. The North London club were on the cusp of signing Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze earlier last week, with the player agreeing personal terms with the club. However, Daniel Levy could not find an agreement with the Eagles to sign the player, giving Arsenal an opportunity to hijack the deal at the eleventh-hour.
Not only that, but Spurs also missed out on Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White last month, despite triggering his release clause. The Lilywhites were accused of breaching the confidential contractual details, making the deal to land the England international complicated. And after days of back and forth, Gibbs-White decided to snub Tottenham and sign a contract extension at City Ground instead.
It goes without saying that Thomas Frank is overachieving right now with a mediocre team. The Danish tactician has time and again urged the club to bring in new players if they want to compete hard on all four fronts this season. However, Daniel Levy has not managed to back the ex-Brentford boss at all in the summer. And many believe that the Spurs chairman is setting up Thomas Frank to fail at N17.
Now, John Wenham has shared how the disappointing transfer window has affected morale at Hotspur Way. Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham said,
“How does that leave Frank feeling? Twice he’s given a preferred target, firstly, Gibbs-White, then Eze, and both times we very publicly failed to get deals over the line. So, I think there’ll be a massive feeling of frustration at Hotspur Way.”
John Wenham believes that Thomas Frank is sent straight to the firing line as Daniel Levy fails to back the Danish tactician in the transfer market. The Lilywhite Rose owner points out Daniel Levy’s incompetency as Spurs missed out on two key signings this summer, becoming a public mess along the way. Wenham also shares that the mood at N17 is not the best, and there is a feeling of ‘frustration’ at the club.
The only way to save the summer is by bringing in quality players before the transfer market shuts. Daniel Levy still has the chance to save himself by backing Thomas Frank in the coming days and strengthening the squad quickly. Signing players will give the Danish tactician a strong chance of going deep in cup competitions, as well as, improving in the Premier League as the season progresses.
