As No. 10 Texas entered its bye week after a motivating win over Sam Houston, the Southeastern Conference officially announced the annual and rotational league opponents for each SEC team.
As part of the new nine-game conference schedule, the SEC is implementing three annual opponents for each team, with the intention of maintaining traditional rivalries and balanced competition.
As for the other six conference games that will be played, the opponents will rotate yearly, meaning that by the end of every two years, every SEC team will have played every other SEC team.
Texas joined the SEC at the right time, as it is now getting fully immersed in the conference. So here is a full breakdown of every SEC team that Texas will face that it has not already played since joining the SEC last year.
Last matchup: 2013, 44-23, Ole Miss
Next matchups: 2026 at home, 2028 at Ole Miss
All-time record: 6-1, Texas
Thoughts: Ole Miss has done very well under head coach Lane Kiffin since he joined the program in 2020, and in that time, the Rebels have made themselves known for high-powered offenses, plenty of scoring, and fun plays.
Ole Miss has had three seasons in the five years under Kiffin in which it has won nine games or more, and it is consistently sitting around the middle of the top 25, like now, as the Rebels are currently ranked No. 13, just three spots behind Texas.
Texas-Ole Miss could eventually turn out to be a great series to watch with a lot of potential for plenty of points.
Last matchup: 2019, 45-38, LSU
Next matchups: 2026 at LSU, 2028 at home
All-time record: 9-1-8, Texas
Thoughts: The Longhorns and the Tigers have traded wins back-and-forth in their last six matchups, which date back to 1952, but the matchup between the two that fans on both sides remember is the most recent game that took place.
When the two last met, Texas welcomed LSU into Austin and suffered a heartbreaking 45-38 loss. Although it seemed bad at the time, what people didn’t know was that a would-be 8-5 Texas team only lost by one score to the eventual national champions.
Now, both teams are in completely different places, being led by different head coaches. Both teams have been trending upwards, and the matchup in Death Valley has the potential to be one of the best games of the year as Texas will be seeking revenge.
Last matchup: 2017, 33-16, Texas
Next matchups: 2026 at Missouri, 2028 at home
All-time record: 18-1-9, Texas
Thoughts: The Tigers have had their ups and downs since they joined the SEC back in 2012, but they’re currently riding out one of their highs, as they’ve now had back-to-back seasons with at least 10 wins.
We’ll finally get the action between these two former Big 12 schools back, and although they never faced off annually while they were both in the Big 12, there’s history between the two dating back to 1894.
Last matchup:1969, 36-13, Texas
Next matchups: 2026 at Tennessee, 2028 at home
All-time record: 2-1, Texas
Thoughts: The History between Texas and the Volunteers is brief and old. There have only been three games played between the two, with the most recent being in 1969, and the two before coming in 1953 and 1951, and all three were in the Cotton Bowl.
Now that these games will be played in 2026 and later, we’ll get a whole new experience.
Knoxville can be one of the hardest places to play in all of college football, while the Volunteers will also get the challenge of playing in DKR. This battle of the orange could very likely become a great rivalry game, if you could still call it that.
Last matchup: 1991, 14-10, Auburn
Next matchups: 2027 at home, 2029 at Auburn
All-time record: 5-3, Texas
Thoughts: This is arguably the least concerning team on this list, as Auburn has been struggling to gain traction since the early 2010s, which were once the Cam Newton glory days.
Currently, the Tigers are sitting on four-straight losing seasons, are also unranked, sitting at 3-1, and still have to face five more ranked teams this season, so the odds for a fifth straight are still on the table.
There’s nothing to say that Auburn couldn’t somehow just pick it up, but it’s fair to say that Auburn is relatively unimpressive, except for Jordan-Hare Stadium, which produces a great atmosphere and a dangerous environment for opposing teams.
Last matchup: 1957, 27-21, South Carolina
Next matchups: 2027 at South Carolina, 2029 at home
All-time record: 1-0, South Carolina
Thoughts: South Carolina would probably be the next most unimpressive team on this list, behind Auburn, as the Gamecocks have only had one nine-or-more win season since 2017.
The program has picked up traction thanks to the help of star quarterback LaNorris Sellers and others, but so far this season, they have been underwhelming as they currently sit at 2-2 after entering the season ranked No. 13.
Playing in Colombia will be a feat, but nothing is impossible for the Longhorns. This matchup isn’t super exciting at first glance, but it could definitely provide some good games in the future.
