Devin Booker will once again resume duties as the Phoenix Suns’ cornerstone superstar.
The arrival of 2x NBA champion Kevin Durant pushed Devin Booker to the back burner for the Phoenix Suns. After all, KD is one of the best scorers of all time.
However, under Durant’s leadership, the Suns failed to perform well, even with the help of Bradley Beal. Well, the top brass finally realized their mistake as Durant was traded to the Houston Rockets this summer.
On the other hand, Beal also agreed to a contract buyout with the Suns as he joined the Los Angeles Clippers on a two-year, $11 million deal.
With the exits of KD and Beal, many doubted if Booker would continue to show loyalty to the Suns or pursue a move away from the team.
However, Booker proved to be a true one-franchise player as he signed a two-year, $145 million contract extension with the Suns this summer.
While Booker has proved his loyalty, former NBA player Austin Rivers is puzzled by the 4x NBA All-Star’s ‘insane’ agreement with the Suns.
“I’m glad he’s [Durant] out of Phoenix, that is a ___show. I don’t know what Devin’s doing. He’s getting paid, how much more do you need? Get out of there!” Rivers said on The Ringer NBA.
On Book’s new $145m deal, Rivers stated: “That is insane. He won the summer.”
Even if Booker’s commitment confuses Rivers, there are those who praise him for it. For instance, Damian Lillard loves Booker’s loyalty to the Suns, hailing it as ‘the most important thing.’
With the Suns entering a new era, experts have taken shots at the franchise. Many expect them to struggle in the loaded Western Conference during the 2025-26 season.
One such report reached the Suns and WNBA’s Mercury owner Mat Ishbia, who bought the franchises for $4 billion in 2023. Ishbia went off on the ‘so-called experts’ on X.
“I’m not worried about what the so-called experts think. They had us as a title contender the past two years and were wrong then.
“We’re focused on making our fans proud by playing great as a team and building a brand of basketball that’s tough and gritty,” Ishbia stated.

Over the last two seasons, the Suns finished sixth and 11th in the West. It will be interesting to see where they end up with Booker as the sole superstar on the team.
