Giannis Antetokounmpo will lead Greece’s charge at FIBA EuroBasket 2025, as the Hellenic Basketball Federation revealed its 12-man roster Sunday evening. The Milwaukee Bucks superstar returns as the centerpiece of the national team, set to showcase his trademark mix of power, versatility, and leadership.
Antetokounmpo recently began official work with the team, following a delay related to the size of his contract relative to FIBA’s insurance policy for players.
He played in the team’s exhibition game against France, which Greece lost 92-77 as Antetokounmpo scored 18 points on seven shots in just under 22 minutes. Team Greece ended the exhibition games with a record of 4-3.
Veteran guard Kostas Sloukas strengthens the backcourt with his leadership and playmaking, while Tyler Dorsey fuels the offense with his scoring ability. Head coach Vassilis Spanoulis directs Greece to push the pace with an up-tempo style built on aggressive defense and quick transitions, maximizing the team’s athleticism and energy.
Greece unveiled its official roster for EuroBasket 2025, featuring Giannis Antetokounmpo alongside Kostas Antetokounmpo, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Tyler Dorsey, Panagiotis Kalaitzakis, Dimitrios Katsivelis, Giannoulis Larentzakis, Dinos Mitoglou, Kostas Papanikolaou, Alexandros Samodurov, Kostas Sloukas, and Vasileios Toliopoulos. The announcement came shortly after Greece finished its preparation games with a loss to France in Athens.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo is set to make his official return at EuroBasket after undergoing surgery for a torn Achilles tendon that sidelined him since May 2024. Despite being added to the roster as a replacement for NCAA rookie Neoklis Avdalas, he delivered strong performances in Greece’s preparation games, showing encouraging form ahead of the tournament.
Although the established stars command most of the spotlight, the roster also reflects the federation’s focus on long-term growth. Emerging talent Alexandros Samodurov, who claimed a spot in the All-Star Five at the FIBA U20 EuroBasket 2025 earlier this summer, received his call-up and adds fresh energy and versatility to the squad.
Greece will compete in Group C, hosted in Limassol, Cyprus, where they must navigate a difficult pool featuring Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, reigning champions Spain, and co-hosts Cyprus.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Greeks open their campaign against Italy on August 28 at 20:30 CET, looking to set the tone for a strong push toward a deep tournament run.
