The New York Giants are in the waning weeks of the 2025 NFL Draft cycle, meaning it’s time for the information-gathering stage to conclude. That will come in the form of local and 30 visits and a smattering of pro days.
Much of the attention about the Giants’ draft has revolved around consternation for the No. 3 pick. Will they take a quarterback or a blue-chip defender? Will Travis Hunter fall, and would New York be positioned well to optimize him? The questions and permutations are endless, but there’s work to be done for Day 2 and 3 as well.
That process continued on Monday, when the Giants hosted Penn State standout safety Jaylen Reed for a pre-draft visit.
According to Mike Garafolo, Reed’s visit counts as a local visit, and thus will not impact the team’s 30 visits.
Reed is a strong third-round option for New York, stepping in as the third safety with legitimate starting upside. He’s versatile, flashing both as a split-field safety and in the box where his blend of size and speed can be weaponized. At 5-11, 211, he packs a punch and his straight-line speed (4.50-second 40-yard dash) shows up repeatedly.
Granted, his burst and fluidity aren’t as impressive as his pure speed and his tackling can be hit-or-miss – there’s a reason he’s projected to go deep into Day 2.
The Giants drafted safety Tyler Nubin in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and Reed would presumably slide in behind him. Nubin was fine as a rookie, but without the ball production that defined his game in college, adding capable bodies to spell him if necessary makes sense.
Garafolo also reported that Reed has visits scheduled with the New York Jets, Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, and Baltimore Ravens.
