The San Francisco Giants are currently on the road on Sunday night facing off the final game of their weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
While this is a massive series for the Giants with them sitting just one game back of the Dodgers in the National League West standings, the headline heading into Sunday’s game was their blockbuster trade with the Boston Red Sox.
Ahead of Sunday’s game, it was reported that the Giants are sending Kyle Harrison, Jordan Hicks and two prospects to the Red Sox in exchange for superstar DH and third baseman Rafael Devers.

This was a shocking move as many did not see Boston moving on from Devers this fast, though it was not out of the question after the two sides had grown apart during the season with them moving him to DH.
With the move, the Giants now add another superstar to their roster as they hunt a World Series championship and ESPN’s Karl Ravech compared the trade to the Los Angeles Lakers’ deal for Luka Doncic during the NBA season.
“Maybe Luka Doncic, at least most recently, is like the most impactful kid of deal in the middle that immediately said, ‘can we win an NBA championship now, is it going to happen?’ Obviously, it didn’t happen in Los Angeles but with how the Giants are playing, it certainly changes their forecast in the immediate future,” Ravech said.

Of course, the Dallas Mavericks moving on from Doncic came out of nowhere at the trade deadline and it immediately had an impact on the Lakers, though they were unable to make it out of the first round of the playoffs.
Despite this, Ravech’s comparison is a good one as the Lakers’ move for Doncic made them into title contenders for the foreseeable future and the Giants now emerge as a World Series contender with their acquisition of Devers.
While Doncic’s trade was a complete shock where many saw Boston moving on from Devers, they both have similarities as both California teams were able to land a superstar player that gives them a great shot at contending for championships in the near future.
