Gophers have contacted five new players in the transfer portal
USA TODAY Sports

Ben Johnson and the Gophers landed their first transfer portal addition of the offseason last Wednesday when Canisius transfer big man Frank Mitchell committed to the program, but they still have at least four open scholarships to fill.

With Elijah Hawkins, Dawson Garcia, Mike Mitchell Jr., Parker Fox and Kadyn Betts returning, the Gophers are still searching for backcourt depth and perimeter shooting as they await the final decision for star freshman Cam Christie.

Johnson and his staff are expected to remain active in the transfer portal and they've recently contacted five players.

Ken Evans Jr., G, Jackson StateĀ

The 2024 SWAC player of the year averaged 18.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game last season. Listed at 6-foot-5, he would slot highly into the Gophers' backcourt rotations. He is also hearing from West Virginia, FAU and Hawaii amongst others.

Seydou Traore, F, Manhattan

A 6-foot-7 forward, Traore was one of the best freshmen in the MAAC last season averaging 11.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per. He has a laundry list of schools interested such as Georgetown, Syracuse and Clemson. Johnson and his staff would need quite the pitch to lure him to Dinkytown.

Bradley Ezewiro, F, St. Louis

Ezewiro is going through the transfer process for the third time, having previously played at LSU and Georgetown. Standing at 6-foot-9, he averaged 12 points, and 6.2 rebounds a game last season for the Billikens. A return to LSU is a possibility as well as Georgia Tech and USC, but he could provide Minnesota some more depth at the post position.

Myles Foster, F, Illinois State

Another highly touted option, Foster has heard from dozens of high-major programs such as USC, San Diego State and Florida. He started his college career at Monmouth before breaking out for 12.4 points and 8.1 rebounds per game last season at Illinois State. As a 6-foot-7 forward he would be a big fish to reel in for Minnesota.

Kasean Pryor, F, South Florida

Kasean Pryor is one of the hottest names currently in the portal. At 6-foot-10, he has guard skills and a whole lot of potential. He began his college career at Boise State but averaged 13 points and 7.9 rebounds per contest last season for USF. With schools like Gonzaga, UConn and Louisville interested, he would be a "home run" addition.
