Governor Gavin Newsom says sports could return in California in June

If professional sports leagues in North America resume their seasons over the summer, they have multiple options of where games can be played.

California Governor Gavin Newsom began his coronavirus update press conference by saying California has made significant progress on hospitalizations, testing, and distributing protective equipment. He then announced that in the coming days and weeks, the state is prepared to allow larger counties to reopen dine-in restaurants and office buildings while adding that professional sports can resume, without fans, in June.

This is good news for sports fans, but Governors aren't the ones making decisions on whether or not leagues will return to action.

The NHL and NBA have been searching for viable options for a season restart while MLB has been trying to come up with ways they can begin their season despite growing criticism from players. Meanwhile, the NFL released its schedule for the 2020 campaign but Commissioner Roger Goodell noted that things could change come September.

California hasn't necessarily been in discussions of a spot to resume professional sports, but maybe it will be in the coming weeks.
