The Green Bay Packers made a minor but attention-grabbing trade move over the weekend, as they sent a sixth-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft to the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, in exchange for offensive lineman Darian Kinnard.
The addition of Kinnard to the Packers is mainly seen as one that addresses Green Bay’s depth issues, especially with all the hurt bodies the team saw in the offseason.
The Packers offer Kinnard a new pro environment. At the same time, Green Bay isn’t exactly alien to the former Kentucky Wildcats football player, as Kinnard once visited with the Packers before he was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022.
Via Zach Kruse of Packers Wire:
The Packers brought Kinnard to Green Bay for one of the team’s 30 visits before the 2022 draft. Under Brian Gutekunst, the Packers have rarely tried to hide their intentions with pre-draft visits. When a player visits the Packers before a draft, the chances of that player becoming a Packer rises substantially. Kinnard also participated at the Senior Bowl, another important event for the Packers. The Kansas City Chiefs ended up selecting Kinnard at No. 145 overall in the fifth round, just five picks after the Packers took Zach Tom.
Kinnard, who owns the unique distinction of being just one of two players in the history of the NFL to win three consecutive Super Bowls, has played in only three games (one start) since entering the NFL. He remains just a depth guy for the Packers, but the team surely would love to have his Super Bowl pedigree rub off on them, as they look to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the first time since the 2010 season.
