Hannah Hidalgo Sets Notre Dame Record For Rookie Of The Week Awards
Matt Cashore, USA TODAY Sports

The accolades keep piling up for Hannah Hidalgo. Notre Dame’s freshman point guard has been named the ACC Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the sixth time this season. With the honor, Hidalgo ties the Notre Dame program record for rookie of the week honors in a season.

Hidalgo now shares the record with former Irish players Alicia Ratay, Jacqueline Batteast, Brianna Turner and current teammate Sonia Citron. Ratay and Batteast earned their honors in the Big East, while Turner and Citron did it in the ACC.

Notre Dame played just one game last week, Sunday’s 86-81 loss to Syracuse. Hidalgo made the most of it by scoring a career-high 32 points. Her second 30-point game ties the program record for the most in freshman history. Hidalgo has scored 20 or more points in nine of the first 11 games of her career.

The freshman from Haddonfield, NJ added seven steals, six assists and five rebounds against the Orange. It marks the seventh time this season she has recorded at least six steals in a game. Hidalgo also notched her fourth game this year with at least 25 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. No one else in the nation has more than one such game. There have been just seven such performances in women's D1 basketball this season. Hidalgo continues to lead the ACC in scoring (24.5 ppg) while also leading the nation in steals (6.1).
