The Texas Longhorns are riding a nice wave of momentum on the recruiting trail for the 2026 class.

After a few big recruiting weekends in Austin throughout the month of June, Texas is starting to see fruit from their labor. Four-star defensive lineman Vodney Cleveland and five-star edge Richard Wesley announced their commitment to the Longhorns over the weekend, and several other top priority targets left their visits with positive reviews.

While many coaches, players and fans were understandably ecstatic with the latest commitment of Wesley, it may be a bigger deal than you thought. Rivals recently compared where Wesley ranks in terms of the highest ranked recruits to commit to Texas in the history of their recruiting database.

Wesley is currently the No. 6 overall player in the Rivals100, making him the fifth-highest ranked player to ever commit to the Longhorns in the Rivals database. Only Vince Young, Arch Manning, Jonathan Gray and Sergio Kindle ranked ahead of Wesley. Transfers (i.e. Quinn Ewers) are not included in this ranking.

Wesley also ranks as a five-star prospect and the No. 2 edge in the nation for the 2026 recruiting class by 247Sports.The Sierra Canyon product recorded 44 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, nine sacks and three forced fumbles as a junior in 2024.

At the Rivals Five-Star Challenge in Indianapolis this week, Wesley was videoed tossing Tennessee's top offensive tackle commit, Gabriel Osenda, to the ground during a drill.

It looks like the Longhorns landed one of the most gifted athletes in the class.
