The LSU Tigers Baseball team hit the road for the second consecutive weekend for a series against the Auburn Tigers. After sweeping No. 9 Oklahoma just a week before, it felt like the Tigers would continue to roll, but that was not the case. They came out flat and struggled to get anything going offensively, and Auburn ended up winning all three games in the series.
Despite getting swept, LSU still finds themselves ranked inside D1 Baseball's top-10. Here's how far they fell:
The LSU Tigers fell six spots from No. 3 in the rankings to No. 9 after losing all three games to Auburn. Surprisingly, Auburn only climbed three spots in the rankings, jumping from 11 to 8.
It was an abysmal week for the Tigers. A week after Kade Anderson threw a 135-pitch, complete game shutout, he gave up five earned runs in an 8-4 loss. On Saturday, Anthony Eyanson also struggled, giving up four runs in five innings before he was taken out of the game. On Sunday, Chase Shores couldn't even make it out of the third inning before he was replaced after giving up three runs.
Offensively, things weren't a whole lot better. The Tigers scored eight runs across three games and batted .188 overall, .217 with runners on base and .148 with runners in scoring position. They also stranded a 26 runners on base in the series. With those numbers, it's a miracle they managed to score eight runs.
LSU will finally return to Alex Box Stadium this weekend for a three-game series against No. 15 Alabama. After losing their series to Texas earlier this year, the Tigers responded by sweeping Mississippi State at home. They'll try to replicate that performance this weekend.
