Don Cherry is seen by many as an icon in hockey, but according to one analyst, he simply doesn't deserve the accolades that have been suggested for him.
Both on and off our screens on Coach's Corner and his work since Hockey Night in Canada, Don Cherry is one of the most polarizing figures in hockey broadcasting history, but even for those that aren't huge fans, they still respect his contributions to the game.
It's those that respect those contributions that want him to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a builder given his contributions to hockey broadcasting, but for freelance reporter Ken Campbell, it's simply not good enough.
While he gave Cherry his flowers, he clearly blasted the veteran broadcaster, even going as far to say that he has been bad for hockey overall in a tirade on social media.
I'm not a fan of Don Cherry, never have been. I think he's been terrible for the game. That said, I'd have no problem with him winning the Foster Hewitt Award, which would give him HOF recognition. But in the Hall of Fame as a Builder? No chance. What did he actually ever build?
Recently, Cherry made a heartbreaking announcement, signing off from his podcast for what appears to be the final time, something that has brought up strong feelings from many in the hockey world.
Ultimately, Cherry will be remembered fondly by those that grew up with his hockey coverage, and for others he simply hasn't done as much for the game as some believe, and while he's worthy of the respect he gets overall, it's safe to say that not everyone is a huge fan of the push to get him inducted into the Hall of Fame.
