Homelander is the most notorious figure in The Boys, and he’s based in part on one of the most notorious figures outside The Boys : Donald Trump.
“I think there’s a very obvious human being I know [The Boys writer] Eric [Kripke] has steered the character towards,” Homelander actor Antony Starr tells Deadline.
Without mentioning Trump by name, Starr expressed his love for the creative decision to incorporate elements from Trump’s public persona into his messed-up superhero character.
“I understand why and I agree with that choice and I love that choice,” Starr continues. “For me it’s really important to make sure that as well as getting the nods to people in real life and the super brand elements and all that, for me to have a three dimensional…because he’s a human being, ultimately, that’s just been injected with a drug to make him what he is.”
Antony Starr also reveal who wins in a Homelander vs Superman fight, and there are no surprises who he backs (although how he describes the fantasy clash says a lot about Homelander’s fighting style). Watch Starr’s comments in full below.
