The Kansas City Chiefs have been aggressive in the last couple of drafts. And in the 2025 NFL Draft, they can be looking to do the same.
The Chiefs have several needs on the defensive side of the ball and because of bad drafting by teams and teams reaching for certain players, it can give the Chiefs a chance to steal one of the top linebackers in this year's draft.
The Chiefs' defense last season was one of the best in the National Football League. The defense was anchored by a strong linebacker group that they want to improve next season. The good news for the Chiefs is that they re-signed linebacker Nick Bolton this offseason. The Chiefs can add to that by taking Jihaad Campbell from the University of Alabama.
Campbell is a top defensive prospect, but experts and mocks have him falling late in the first round. And with the Chiefs sitting with the 31st overall pick, they can stay aggressive and trade up to grab and steal Campbell right out of the gate. Campbell also gives the Chiefs another pass rusher who can line up on the defensive line and get to the quarterback.
If the Chiefs somehow draft Campbell on Thursday, their defense will have another player who will be ready to start at the NFL level. A lot of athleticism and speed. Campbell gives you good pass coverage as well.
"Campbell has the build and traits of an Alabama linebacker but might need to upgrade in some areas. He doesn’t play with early instincts or play recognition and is inconsistent in challenging blockers and leveraging his run fits. Campbell uses his speed and athleticism to help mitigate mistakes and get to the football at a relatively high rate. He’s a rangy, consistent open-field tackler who excels on third downs as a fluid blitzer and impressive cover talent," said NFL analyst Lance Zierlein.
"The elite traits and athletic talent will be tantalizing, but the best way to utilize him might be as a full-time 3-4 rush linebacker, where he can play more proactively instead of reactively as an off-ball linebacker."
This will be another good job of drafting if general manager Brett Veach can land Campbell in the draft.
