Howie Roseman praised Kelee Ringo (but not for the reason Eagles fans think)

It has certainly been a whirlwind of a 2025 for Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Kelee Ringo.

After the departures of Darius Slay, James Bradberry, and Avonte Maddox, many saw Ringo as the next CB2 alongside Quinyon Mitchell. That's until the Eagles signed Adoree' Jackson in free agency, and all of a sudden, it was a position battle.

Training camp and preseason did not go very well for Ringo. He struggled in coverage and consistency in tackling which eventually led to the Eagles trading for Jakorian Bennett. Right after that happened, Ringo would be demoted to second string and lost out on the CB2 job altogether.

The Eagles would sit Ringo out of the preseason finale against the New York Jets, with some questioning his future. He would make the 53-man roster, but still, there are questions about Ringo. Should there be questions, though?

Howie Roseman silences critics with vote of support for Ringo

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni spoke with the media after the team turned in their 53-man roster. Roseman discussed his feelings on the cornerback position and went out of his way to single out Ringo.

"You talk about Kelee. I mean, Kelee is big. He’s fast. He’s strong," Roseman said via The Athletic's Zack Berman and Brooks Kubena. "Kelee has shown that he’s one of the best special teams players in this league, which I think is a huge thing for our football team. So, I probably take it a little bit differently about that position. I think that that’s a position that we have strength in numbers there and I’m looking forward to seeing those guys play against Dallas.”

Ringo is entering his third season in the NFL, where he has racked up 36 tackles, three pass deflections, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, one interception, one quarterback hit, and one sack in 34 games. He has played at least 69% of the special teams snaps over the last two years.

The reality is Ringo may not be ready in his development to become a starting cornerback. It's a shame, as he has the size to be a great corner in the NFL, but it may not be in the cards for him.

It is telling that Roseman brought him up among all the cornerbacks. Not sure if that is worth reading into, but people don't typically bring up a player unprovoked unless there is something more to it.

Ringo still has a chance to make a difference on this roster, but it might be more on special teams than defense.
