Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball captain and senior opposite hitter Merritt Beason has can add being the No. 1 pick to her resume.

On Monday, the Atlanta Vibe selected Beason first overall in the Pro Volleyball Federation draft, trading up to get the Nebraska star.

With Atlanta, Beason will be coached by former Huskers star Kayla Banwarth and reunite with her freshman year setter at Florida, Marlie Monserez.

"I'm so excited. That program and team is loaded with great players," Beason said after being selected. "I'm excited to come in and compete."

Beason has been huge as a leader for the Huskers over the past two seasons while also being a force on the court.

This season, the All-American and All-Big Ten standout is averaging 3 kills, 0.85 blocks, 1.26 digs and 0.25 service aces per set for the Huskers, making her one of just two players in the Big Ten to average that many kills and blocks per frame.

After finishing the season for the Huskers, she'll head to the best regular-season team from last years inaugural PVF season. She'll also be back in Nebraska to start her pro career, as Atlanta opens at the Omaha Supernovas — the 2024 PVF champions — at CHI Health Center on Jan. 10, 2025.
