Opinions on former Florida Gators head coach Steve Spurrier are mixed.
Florida and South Carolina fans love him. Tennessee and Georgia fans mostly don't.
Everyone, however, almost certainly agrees that the head ball coach is entertaining (or, at the very least, compelling).
In other words, Spurrier is the type of personality that would thrive on TV covering college football. He's quick-witted and he obviously has a deep knowledge of the game.
(Can you imagine Nick Saban and Steve Spurrier on the College GameDay set?!?!?)
Spurrier, however, has never shown a serious interest in a TV gig. On Monday, he explained why that's the case during his weekly appearance on Another Dooley Noted Podcast.
"I thought about it a little bit," said Spurrier when asked about working in television. "And I talked to some lady and she said you gotta go do this, you gotta go do that. You gotta learn all these guys' names and this and that. And [you have to] travel -- and travel about two or three days on the weekend. And I said, 'I don't think that's for me.'"
Spurrier has a pretty sweet gig in retirement. He gets to spend time with his family and play as much golf as he wants without worrying about being prepared weekly for a TV broadcast. It's hard to blame him for passing on a job in television.
But man, it would be fun to see what Spurrier has to say about the sport each week while sitting behind the College GameDay desk. He'd provide a year's worth of content on his first day on the job (no SEC coach or program would be safe...not even Florida).
