'I would Dunk on Yao': Anthony Edwards Trolls NBA Hall-of-Famer Yao Ming

Anthony Edwards is one of the most charismatic and confident superstars the NBA has seen in recent memory, but often times those two qualities get misconstrued as exaggerated cockiness. If you take a look at some of Edwards’ interviews and on-court interactions, it’s simple to see that it’s just the person he is.

The Minnesota Timberwolves guard went viral during the postseason for his mid-game trash talk sessions with Los Angeles Lakers stars Luka Doncic and LeBron James. Now, Edwards is making headlines again for his provocative post with Hall of Fame center Yao Ming, where the 24-year-old claimed he would dunk on Ming.

He then followed the statement up by calling the former Houston Rocket one of the greats, so it’s clear the comment about dunking on Ming was just a joke, however Edwards is no stranger to calling out NBA legends. In an Adidas ad for his new sneakers last year, the Timberwolves star called out tons of media analysts and Hall-of-Famers like Shaquille O’Neal.

Ming is just the latest to become a victim to Edwards’ relentless flow of competitive juices as well as his playful nature. But the presence of Ming alone just speaks to how respected Edwards is among his peers.

After Minnesota eliminated the Lakers from the playoffs, James told Edwards to go take the next step, which many viewed as the four-time champion attempting to pass the torch. Edwards also received consistent praise throughout the season from O’Neal, who claimed the young guard is one of the few players in today’s league who could play in the 1990s and 2000s.

Edwards has only five seasons under his belt, but he’s already one of the most accomplished young players in the league. With All-NBA selections, conference finals appearances, and endorsements from some of the game’s biggest stars, all he’s missing is an MVP and a championship.

Still not having scratched the surface of his prime, Edwards has plenty of time to scale the NBA mountaintop.
