Tottenham star Destiny Udogie needs to impress Thomas Frank next season as the club kickstarts a new era under the Danish tactician
Tottenham defender Destiny Udogie has made waves since making the switch to the Premier League. The talented full-back’s consistent performances for the Lilywhites have made him a mainstay in the team. And it is fair to say that he is one of the first players to get listed in the team-sheet.
The Italy international was crucial in Spurs’ run in the Europa League last season as well. He helped the team go all the way in the competition, ending the North London club’s 17-year wait for a major trophy. As per Sofascore , the 22-year-old featured in 36 games last season in all competitions, playing 2,827 minutes under Ange Postecoglou as the Lilywhites ended the campaign on a massive high.
Now, Udogie will look to impress Thomas Frank as Spurs head into a new era at N17. The Danish tactician is known to play attacking full-backs against low-block teams. So, Udogie might have to improve his game going forward and make an impact in the final third of the pitch, as well as, providing cover at the back when needed.
As we approach the business-end of the transfer window, Tottenham cannot afford to lose of their first-choice players. The Lilywhites are already lacking cover in the full-back position. So losing an important player in Destiny Udogie will put the club in massive trouble. Fans will hope that Daniel Levy can keep the 22-year-old off the market even if a solid bid arrives for the Italian’s services.
The same message is concurred by ex-scout Bryan King. Speaking to Tottenham News, King said,
“I definitely wouldn’t sell him (Udogie). When he’s fit, he’s a big asset to Tottenham. If I were Tottenham, I certainly wouldn’t want to lose a player of that quality. He’s certainly one of the better left-backs in the Premier League when he’s fit.”
The ex-scout added,
“If you want somebody of that calibre, he’s going to cost you £50m minimum, given what’s being branded about today for players. I wouldn’t entertain the idea of selling him.”
Bryan King believes Destiny Udogie is a big asset to the club when he is fit and available, so Tottenham cannot afford to sell him. The ex-scout also adds that Udogie is one of the best left-backs in the Premier League when he is on song. King points out that Spurs should only consider selling the 22-year-old if the bid is around £50m.
It was reported earlier that AC Milan were looking to strike a deal for Destiny Udogie earlier in the summer. But the deal fell through as the 22-year-old showed no interest in leaving N17 for a new club at this stage of his career. Now, Thomas Frank will hope that the Italy international will make a quick return to the first-team following an injury scare during the end of last season.
