Olympian Ilona Maher didn't stay silent, but delivered a powerful message after being criticized because of her physical appearance.
The 28-year-old made a name for herself in sports and gradually gained recognition in the entertainment and fashion worlds, thanks to her strong presence.
On the field, the public saw her as a fierce and determined athlete but she showcased her funny and relatable side on social media.
However, in a recent post, she used her platform to highlight body positivity to women and push back against body shamers.
In a short video, Maher spoke about how she came across a post featuring her in a swimsuit as she walked on a runway.
Unfortunately, the post, which had 20 million views, appeared to deem her in a negative light after it asked if her “body type was considered overweight or not.”

The two-time Olympian began her statement by highlighting how women should love themselves and “learn to find the beauty” in their body, which she considered as the “bravest thing to do.”
“My body type is beautiful and worthy,” she said, adding that she might have a physique bigger than what society considers beautiful “but there is still beauty in it.”
Moreover, she got honest and admitted that there were times when she felt “insecure” but she emphasized how blessed she was to have a body that had done amazing things for her.
In the comment section, Maher received overwhelming praise for her empowering response and body-positive message.
“You’re literally an OLYMPIC ATHLETE and in a BIKINI RUNWAY,” a follower said.
“Because she’s sculpted by the gods honey,” a fan added.
Another user agreed and said, “You’re rocking it with confidence! Keep doing you!”
“Ma’am, I worship you. Full stop,” a commenter noted.
The same goes for a fan who left a remark saying, “Your body type is fierce! You look amazing! You look strong! Keep rocking it!”
As an Olympian, social media star and a role model to her followers, Maher continues to redefine what it means to be powerful — both on and off the field.
