Indiana football set to hire ex-Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente as analyst

The Indiana football program has added another member to its coaching staff.

HoosierIllustrated.com has confirmed that former Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente will be added as an analyst. Richard Johnson of Sports Illustrated was the first to report the news.

Fuente spent the last six seasons at Virginia Tech, helping them to a 43-31 record. He led the Hokies to four bowl games, including a win in the Belk Bowl in 2016. He had eight wins in three of his first four seasons. He went just 10-11 in his final two seasons, however.

Fuente spent three years at Memphis prior to Virginia Tech. He went 19-6 over the course of his final two seasons. Memphis averaged 40.2 points per game in his final season.

Before Memphis, Fuente spent time as an offensive coordinator at TCU under Gary Patterson and then Illinois State. He helped TCU put one of the top offenses on the field. They averaged 456.7 yards per game and 38.3 points per game in his first year. In 2010, they averaged 476.8 yards and 41.5 points per game.

This move comes just a week after Indiana fired offensive coordinator Walt Bell and elevated Rod Carey to fill the position.

Indiana football is 2-3 and takes on Michigan next weekend. The Hoosiers are currently 34.5-point underdogs.
