Indie wrestling star Danny ‘LimeLight’ Rivera has added to his Hollywood acting portfolio with the recent release of the short film Babymoon.
The 33-year-old Rivera from Brooklyn, NY, continues to switch hats within multiple lanes, as his passion extends beyond wrestling to include acting, directing, writing, producing, and stunt coordination. The Marine Corps veteran is no stranger when it comes to balancing a career in Hollywood and wrestling. He’s done it for years, and with the 2021 short film Joe Riv receiving multiple independent awards, Rivera once again went all in for an independent project to see if he can match or exceed Joe Riv, given that he had more experience to contribute to the project.
Rivera recently spoke to FightsATW and discussed his experience of working on the short film Babymoon.
“So Matthew (Raymond) wrote, co-directed and produced Babymoon,” Rivera said. “He brought me on board to play the main antagonist and also to stunt & fight coordinate the film. Matthew & Jalen (Jet Turner, co-director) trusted me a lot and gave me a lot of leeway. They didn’t have any specifics for the fight scene other than it would take place first in the hotel room and then outside of it. They trusted me to put something together, and I did just that.”
When watching a short film, you want to be entertained for the duration of it, but also, if it’s good, there will be a desire to want more. That is what Babymoon did for me when I watched it last week. Ryan (Matthew Raymond) and Ciara (Erin Wu), the main couple on their babymoon, really capture the rollercoaster ride of being in a relationship in these current times, which can be filled with secrets. Even though Ryan knew his wife worked for the CIA, he was unaware that she was still on the job when she was supposed to be on paternity leave.
The story took a turn for the worse when the arms dealer Elijah Ramos, played by Rivera, sends his goons to attack Ryan after a heated interaction between Ramos and Ryan. The last scene of the film ends with a cliffhanger, and as someone who was fully invested at that point, it left me desiring for more, which is a good thing if you are the director.
Given the early positive reaction to the film, Rivera says there is a project that is ready to go and hopes it can see the light of day. “I’ve been in talks with Matthew (Raymond) and he has a feature film ready to go,” Rivera said. “Now it’s just getting the right people to get their eyes on the project. We created Babymoon with just three days of filming with a limited budget, and it turned into a great piece of work.”
Rivera isn’t taking his foot off the pedal and has been quietly filming multiple projects, which will start releasing soon. Full of excitement, Rivera gave a sneak peek of what’s to come. “I have a lifetime movie coming out with Stacey Dash this summer called The Doctor with Two Faces; I shot that last year. I finished shooting a film in Kentucky titled The Asylum and another film with Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy, The Penguin, etc.).”
Not to be ignored, wrestling remains what he does daily as Rivera turns back into Danny Limelight when he steps between the ropes. He has a captivating voice that accompanies his in-ring skills, which is why he is one of the most talented wrestlers on the independent circuit.
LimeLight has a big matchup in August that could cost him his hair if he isn’t too careful. “I have a ‘Hair vs. Hair’ match with Will Allday at ‘Summer of Champions’, August 9 on Reality of Wrestling in Houston, TX.”
Rivera looks to take the second half of this year by the horns and do as much as he can in both Hollywood and wrestling in an effort to get one of them to reach the next level. Perhaps they both do, but regardless, Rivera’s work ethic isn’t going away any time soon, so get used to seeing him more and more on both platforms of entertainment.
