INDYCAR Driver Scott McLaughlin Flames NASCAR’s Bubba Wallace
Team Penske driver Scott McLaughlin (3) stands outside of the infield medical center following a crash Sunday, May 18, 2025, during Top 12 practice ahead of qualifying for the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Friendly fire flew across motorsports social media this week as Scott McLaughlin fired back at his buddy Bubba Wallace after Wallace jokingly mocked McLaughlin’s infamous spin before the start of the 2025 Indianapolis 500.

Wallace poked fun at McLaughlin during a recent interview, sarcastically calling him his “favorite IndyCar driver” while referencing the pace-lap crash that ended McLaughlin’s race before the green flag.

McLaughlin quickly clapped back on X with a playful counterpunch: “Cant wait to cheer on the 45 this weekend. @TylerReddick.”

That jab points squarely at Wallace’s 23XI Racing teammate, Tyler Reddick, who just happens to be chasing history this weekend at Phoenix Raceway with a chance to win his fourth straight NASCAR Cup Series race to start the season.

For the record, the whole exchange is classic racing banter. McLaughlin and Wallace are close friends off the track and regularly trade jokes — and the occasional social media haymaker — whenever one of them slips up.

Call it motorsports trash talk… with a wink.
